The successful candidate will possess demonstrable experience in medical practice finance and revenue cycle management; a history of working in an executive leadership structure in a financial management capacity; proven large-project expertise; and significant budget management proficiency.
In addition to the expected skills and experience of a CFO, the position requires wide-ranging general business experience along with the aptitude and ability to assist the practice’s chief operating officer (COO) with business decisions. The ideal candidate will have specific experience in one or more of the following areas: strategic planning and execution, contract analysis and negotiations, direction of legal resources, and practice operations.

Position: Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Job Summary: This individual is responsible for: The financial assessment of the organization’s business strategy; oversight of the practice’s accounting, financial reporting, and revenue cycle management functions; and the development of — and adherence to — the annual budget.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
At least 8-10 years of work experience and a college degree, preferably an MBA or CPA.
Previously held at least one or more of the following titles or equivalent positions: Chief financial officer, chief executive officer, practice administrator, financial controller, or director of accounting or finance.
Previous experience working as a senior member of an administration team, including experience in strategic direction; contract negotiations; management of construction projects; and the ability to manage relationships with physicians, vendors, investors, third-party payers and legal counsel.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Expertise with standard accounting principles.
Demonstrated computer literacy and high-functioning skills with a variety of accounting software such as Solomon, QuickBooks, Great Plains, Quicken, or SageOne.
Experience desired with fully integrated medical office software packages including EHR.
Expertise with most, or all, of the following: Corporate structures, human resource regulations, financial statements, financial software, productivity reporting, CPT coding, revenue cycle management, provider contracting issues, physician compensation methodology, and general state/federal regulations impacting medical practices.
Experience in negotiating general business contracts.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the COO and CEO (practice owner).
Make actionable recommendations on practice strategy and operations to increase profitability and grow shareholder equity value.
Develop and utilize predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions.
Negotiate major contracts and manage system-wide purchasing and cost control.
Direct and maintain all insurance coverage for the practice.
Coordinate with outside accounting firms to validate accurate reporting, monitor and analyze tax impact, and ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements and tax liabilities.
Ensure that proper accounting controls are in place to mitigate the risk of embezzlement and theft. Specific responsibilities include the management of inventory systems.
Oversee debt/equity financing and banking relationships.
Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds, as needed.
Develop and maintain quality assurance guidelines to ensure compliance with third-party payers.
Monitor the revenue cycle to facilitate a healthy turnover and maximum collections of accounts receivable.
Negotiate and develop relationships with managed care plans and employers on behalf of the practice’s clients.
Communicate with the COO and CEO (practice owner) on a regular basis concerning all financial matters.
Manage or oversee other duties and reports as required by the COO or CEO (practice owner).
