The Managing Director of Corporate Finance will play a critical role in the Canadian market as part of the leadership team responsible for establishing and growing the business in-market. More specifically, the MD Corporate Finance is responsible for developing relationships and originating both simple and complex debt financing arrangements for technology clients and prospects in Canada. The MD will have a solid understanding of credit and capital markets, financial engineering, competition, technology market and SVB’s unique market advantages.

Accountable for building, developing and managing the Sponsor Finance team in the Canadian market; contribute to the overall growth of the Canadian business as part of the leadership team; set targets and manage the team, tracking overall performance.
Build strategic relationships with key executives and influencers in the ecosystems.
Advise on, originate, and negotiate financing solutions for Commercial Bank clients.
Responsible for new business development, expansion of existing relationships.
Responsible for ensuring the team is focusing on SVB's Success Drivers and Corporate Goals through collaboration with appropriate business units and thru smart risk taking.
Coordinate efforts with our business partners and product groups across the organization.

Needed experience and skills:
Experience in upper middle market technology banking and at least one of the following areas: debt capital markets/leverage finance.
Experience building a team and contributing to a growth oriented organization.
Fluent in debt and equity capital markets, and financing trends and players in our market with a proven track record of advising tech company executives on their capital structure.
Demonstrated ability to build personal relationships with executives and other influencers in the market through thoughtful, proactive advice. Has a track record of identifying/sourcing/creating new business opportunities and bringing them to a successful close in a team-based environment.
Has experience advising high-growth companies to optimize their treasury function through positioning commercial banking products including foreign exchange hedging, trade finance, payments & collections automation, and investing strategic cash balances. Managing Director will have the ability to clearly articulate SVB’s platform and map how it supports clients’ continued growth.
Has the ability and interest to be a thought leader in technology market trends and bring an informed point of view to the market, and is also able to translate market knowledge to client advocacy internally
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience. MBA or CFA Preferred.
10+ years of business development/lending experience in the banking or financial services industry, preferably in the tech banking sector.
Advanced knowledge of bank operations and products.
Strong negotiation, marketing and closing skills.
Expertise in risk assessment, setting expectations and managing deteriorating accounts pro-actively.
